There is nothing like being around members of your tribe to make you feel rejuvenated. This week I attended a one-day seminar on Social Media Marketing and the two-day WordCamp Raleigh 2011.
At the SSM seminar, most of the attendees seemed to appear forced to be there. There was definitely a majority of reluctant folks than those excited about learning to use social for business. It was an energy suckage for me. I wanted to be with people who were like me–thirsty to know more. I could rant more on this, but I think that’s better for another post.
WordCamp Raleigh 2011 was so different. Or maybe I lucked up to be near like-minded people. But the vibe was definitely one of celebration of WordPress and any associated geekery. No derision or lame jokes about “I’m middle-aged, I don’t know what a blog is.” or “Hahaha, what will these Gen-Y kids think of next.” Sigh. I digress. It felt good to be around people who celebrate, no REVEL in their smartness.
I intend to use WordPress more in the future. I’m excited to learn more and thoroughly enjoyed my first WordCamp Raleigh experience. Can’t wait for more tomorrow.
