It was quite an achievement to finally get Little Professor Winston Hans (aka Winston) to do the “down” command successfully. He would never do it throughout training. He finally did it on test day so he could pass training class. I was both relieved and proud. You absolutely can teach an old dog new tricks. And old dog owners, too!

Sadly, he was a scruffy mess, with bangs covering his eyes when it was time for his close up. And yes, that is a mortar board on his head. Dog people.
