I never realized how stinky my armpits could actually get until a recent bout of eczema.
I didn’t grow up having eczema. I developed contact dermatitis in my 30s. Typically I have one or two annoying patches in the fall or winter, but this was the first time having an extensive outbreak that included eczema on both armpits.
I’ve used the same antiperspirant/deodorant brand forever because it just works. It’s a gel and doesn’t show up or turn white on brown skin. When I first realized I wouldn’t be able to use antiperspirant, I went without for a couple of days and just wiped the area throughout the day and used lotion for the eczema. Not very convenient to do when you work in an office all day. Also, I quickly realized I more than perspire and the funk was headed toward the funk of 1000 years. Enter a friend, who had a friend, who had tried a cream from the company Eczema Honey.
I originally went to the site hoping to find a lotion that would help faster than everything I was using including witch hazel, oatmeal lotions like Aveeno and Gold Bond, olive oil, cortisone, etc. Instead I bought the Soothing Oatmeal Deodorant as soon as I saw it.
It definitely lives up to the billing “calming relief for underarms.” I had to adapt to having something scented under my arms (I prefer unscented products). But the smell is pleasant and smells like a lot of my natural hair products which contain honey. My underarm eczema cleared up faster than the my neck, face and torso. It didn’t keep me from sweating as much as an antiperspirant would, but was effective at keeping the funk at bay.
It does have sweet almond oil listed in the ingredients, so proceed with caution if you have a nut allergy.
If you’re struggling with eczema, give this a try!
