I still enjoy using a Canon DSLR. Especially to snap photos of birds, rabbits and squirrels mostly. Anything that’s fast moving. It was especially entertaining to capture the natural world around me during the height of the pandemic.
I still take my Canon on trips because I can zoom in tight to get landmarks. Using a camera in addition to my iPhone camera helps preserve its battery life while out touring all day and night.
I know I could buy lenses with great zoom capabilities that attach to the iPhone. But while traveling I prefer that my phone stays charged up for emergencies instead of uploading the massive amounts of photos and videos I’m taking to the Cloud.
Earth’s moon
My favorite subject is the probably our moon. I was ecstatic when I first realized I could zoom in that far for a photo with just a point and shoot camera. I love capturing all the different phases and seeing the craters up close.

I’ve shot all the named moons like Wolf Moon, Beaver Moon, Strawberry Moon, etc. Even got a moon eclipse once, but those photos didn’t come out well. Admittedly I do best on the auto setting but I’m trying to use manual settings more to photograph stars and planets.
