Great news for the new year! A beloved natural haircare brand is coming back.
I felt a little guilty for breaking my Facebook fast to pop into one of my groups. Until I saw a notification from My Honey Child.

*New level of Black girl joy unleashed!*
My Honey Child products were at the official beginning of my natural hair journey. At first I tried taking care of my half kinky / half chemically straightened hair with another brand. Then I went to Sofia Sunflower Salon and got my first big chop. The owner introduced me to her hair products. This haircare line helped me between salon visits as I learned to do my hair in its native texture.
Right on time for this stage of the journey

A few months ago, while grieving, I accidentally “glued” my wet curls together with a clarifying shampoo. I had used it many times without issues, but this time it matted my hair. Oops! 😩
Maybe the product was too old or I was too busy to properly detangle my hair for months. I ended up cutting two sections ⎯ about 16 inches of hair each. At the time, my hair was mid-back length when blow-dried and flat-ironed straight. I usually wore my hair in two-strand twists or out curly. With shrinkage, most everyone assumed my very thick and kinky hair was shoulder length or shorter.
I was so proud of my crown. I had put a lot of effort into keeping it healthy. My identity and even some of my social media content creation was wrapped up in my big, kinky-curly hair.
Bouncing back better
I was sad and sick about this disaster. At first I tried to disguise the damage by wearing a curly style. When that didn’t work, I used a Puff Cuff to keep it in a low Afro puff style. That was making the problem worse.
Until one day, I reminded myself that healthy hair was my original goal. Growing my hair longer than it had ever been was just a bonus for prioritizing healthy hair. It was time to let it go.
I got another big chop. This one is surprisingly shorter than the first. So I’m excited my original ride-or-die products are back to help me grow a healthy head of hair again. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is going to be extra special on January 20, 2025!
