Day 19: The oldest song you have on mp3, CD or vinyl

Surprisingly the oldest song I own wasn’t on vinyl as I suspected. It’s on an album cassette tape. It’s a throwback to my love for musical theater, dance, and 1930s Hollywood romantic comedies.

Fascinating Rhythm is a song written by George Gershwin in 1924 with lyrics by Ira Gershwin. The version I have is sung by Fred Astaire. The 1926 recorded version in this post features both Astaire and his sister Adele singing.

Well I’ve got some Sophie Tucker and Mae West singing in 30’s and some very old Alberta Hunter—maybe in late 20’s—will have to check.

One of my favorite Gershwin’s is “I’ve Got Rhythm.”
