Blessing of the Pets

Today is the Feast of St Francis of Assisi in the United States. Because St. Francis of Assisi is the Catholic Church’s patron saint of animals and the environment, pets are often brought to church and given a blessing on this day.

In Québec City, the Saint-Roch Church features a gold statue of Saint Roch and his dog. In the square around the church, a blessing of dogs is also held because Saint Roch is the patron saint of dogs, among other things.
