There’s already an avalanche of BTS celebrations in June and on July 9, but I still wanted to join the party! 🥳
So I wanted to share a few memories I have before BTS was the BTS known in the U.S.
First BTS song
The first BTS song that caught my attention when it came out was Cypher, Part 3: Killer. Immediately Rap Monster (now RM) caught my attention. I even watched a couple of episodes of them being mentored by Coolio on some reality TV show. It’s probably still on YouTube somewhere. It was so random. *understatement* 🤣
A fan is born
What turned me into a regular fan were the songs Dope and Burn It Up (Fire). Usually it takes me seeing a video to truly become a fan of a song but didn’t need that for these. I saw the videos much later. My phone ringtone was “Fire” for a while. It’s still one of the ringtones I use in loud places while traveling.
I always thought of them as Hip Hop or Rap likely because that’s the first music I heard from them. As they became famous in the United States, I guess they leaned into their pop side more.
My BTS quick facts:
Favorite All-time BTS Song: Spring Day. I still have this song on repeat. There’s one English verse when V sounds like Michael McDonald to me. I always wonder if anyone else hears this.
Favorite group rap battle: Paldogangsan (I love hearing their different Satoori (dialects). I especially like Daegu dialect.
Bias: V (Started as RM)
Bias wrecker: Jungkook
My favorite side project is Suga as Agust D’s first two albums. Particularly the song and video Daechwita.
Crystal Snow is my favorite Japanese song. Wonder why? 😄
